The boss discusses the window so far...

Forest Green boss Mark Cooper is pleased with the club’s business so far this summer, after he today made Wales international George Williams the club’s fifth signing of the window.

The 22-year-old follows James Montgomery, Carl Winchester, Tahvon Campbell and Joseph Mills in making the switch to The New Lawn.

“You don’t get seven caps for Wales with the way they are at the minute if you’re a mug - he’s a great signing for us”, said Cooper.

“He’s got plenty of experience for a young player, but his last 18 months have been a little bit stop-start, so he knows that he’s got to come somewhere that he’s going to play plenty of games. Hopefully we can give him that platform and he can go and really showcase his ability.”

The manager also reflected on the window so far and is pleased with the players that he and the new head of recruitment Richard Hughes have got through the door:

“I’ve said all along that it’s about patience and getting the right players in – you don’t always get the players that are top of your list but sometimes you do, and we’ve done that today.

“Compared to last year, recruitment-wise we’re in a really good position, we can take our time now - we’ve got the nucleus of a good squad and we’ll continue to be selective and make sure we get the right players in.

“I think when you get players in like George Williams, Carl Winchester and Joseph Mills people can see that we’re serious this year about being competitive. Hopefully those signings are statements and other players are keen to follow.”
