“The goal feels really big”

"Doidge is on fire"

Christian Doidge bagged his 30th goal in 2017 last night, as FGR earned a 1-0 win away at Swindon in the Checkatrade Trophy. After the match he caught up with FGR media and discussed his continued good form, which has seen him score ten goals in his last nine games.

“It’s almost like slow motion at the moment, the goal feels really big," said the Welshman. "That’s how it is - when you’re not scoring much it happens really quick and the goal feels smaller - so I’ve got to make the most of it while the goal’s really big for me and keep plugging away.

“I know I’m getting chances in this team – today I was waiting for that one chance and thankfully I put it away.”

FGR announced yesterday that Doidge will be joined at FGR by the Weston-super-Mare attacking midfielder Dayle Grubb, who up until last night’s match was joint top of the goalscoring charts for non-penalty goals in English football in 2017 alongside Doidge and Harry Kane.

Grubb won’t join his teammates until 1st January, but the FGR number nine is excited by the addition and is looking forward to the banter:

“I’ve overtaken him now in the goalscoring charts this year, I can’t wait to see him and have a little word in his ear!

"He’s a great addition to the squad, he’s obviously played for Weston for a couple of years now and he’s been scoring a lot of goals so he fully deserves his move to Forest Green and we’ll all get ready to get used to him and see what he’s all about.”
