Marsh-Brown in action on the last occasion the sides met

Rovers return to action with another first team squad on show as they make another short trip to take on Brimscombe & Thrupp this afternoon.

Having seen off Nailsworth neighbours Shortwood on Friday night, Mark Cooper’s charges have another chance to stretch their legs, this time taking on Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League opposition.

Last year FGR ran riot thumping The Lillywhites 9-1 with Christian Doidge, Liam Noble and Elliott Frear all bagging braces, while Kieffer Moore, Rob Sinclair and Keanu Marsh-Brown also got in the goal scoring act.

Kick off at the Meadow this afternoon is at 3.00pm and provides a great opportunity for supporters to get up close and personal with the squad.

Team news

The same players that recorded the 4-0 victory over Shortwood on Friday will be in attendance for today’s game with just Liam Noble and Drissa Traore omitted.

Noble picked up a knock from Tuesday night's game against Bishops Cleeve whilst Traore has been given compassionate leave due to the sad passing of his mother.

Brimscombe and Thrupp finished the season in a solid 7th place in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League, closing out the league campaign with a narrow 2-1 win away at Highmoor & Ibis.

However it was the team’s FA Cup run that hit the headlines as they reached the 3rd Qualifying Round for the first time in the club’s history.

Victories over Henley, Highmoor & Ibis, Peacehaven & Telscombe, and Brislington set them up with an away trip to Weymouth. The 2 league jump to play Southern League opposition told though as The Terras romped to a 6-0 win.

Sam Prior took over as first team manager ahead of the 2015/16 season and has enjoyed a successful reign on the pitch so far. In his first year his side went 16 games unbeaten in the league and he’s continued to build a competitive Hellenic League squad from his positive early foundations.

They have had a good pre-season so far recording victories over Chalford, Mangotsfield United, Taverners before being 5-1 in front against Malmesbury Vics only for the match to be abandoned due to a serious injury sustained by a Vics player.

Prior will be looking forward to testing his squad against Football League opposition this afternoon.

The Meadow is one of Gloucestershire’s romantic footballing venues and is just over four miles away from our base at The New Lawn.

It’s dominated by a large bank that offers a great spectators view and has seen plenty of development in recent years to get it up to Hellenic League standards.

In the summer of 2012 Brimscombe added floodlights to the ground with the official opening of the lights coming in a friendly against ourselves in July of that year. A modern seated stand and standing terrace have also been added since then.

The ground is ideally positioned just off London Road that connects Chalford and Stroud. The postcode is GL5 2SH and there’s ample parking on site however it’s recommended fans leave plenty of time as there is only one access road.

Fans can turn up and pay on the day to enjoy a full 90 minutes of football as well as post-game entertainment from band Better Than We Look.
