Alex Iacovitti in high spirits on Saturday

FGR defender Alex Iacovitti is looking to take Saturday’s performance into the coming game with Crewe Alexandra.

Mark Cooper’s side put in one of their most impressive performances of the season, particularly in the first half, away at Crawley Town.

However, they were only able to secure a point for their troubles as Christian Doidge’s strike was cancelled out by Thomas Verheydt.

Iacovitti was far from downbeat after the final whistle though and knows that if they take that performance into Saturday’s game at The New Lawn they stand a high chance of coming away with all three points.

“I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t take all three points but we didn’t get beat and we took a good point away from home,” he said.

“There’s positives but all the lads in the dressing room know we should have put the game to bed early doors and taken the three points but at least we didn’t get beaten.

“If we had put two or three chances away in the first half then the game would have been done in my eyes.

“The gaffer said to us to keep it up, keep on top of teams and it will come.

“We didn’t get beaten and it’s a good point away from home.”

The build-up play to Rovers’ second-half goal epitomised their dominant performance, passing the ball more than 20 times before Isaiah Osbourne threading the ball in behind the Crawley defence for Keanu Marsh-Brown to get the shot off, Doidge in the right place to sweep up the rebound.

It was one of several swift passing moves that opened up the hosts’ back line and Iacovitti says that they are seeing the results of the hard work put in on the training pitch.

“I think it was 20-odd passes,” he added.

“That’s what we work on in training, coming around the back and penetrating through the number 10 and letting him do the work.

“It was a great little move from Ozzy into Keanu and Doidgey finished it off.

“We nearly snatched it at the end but let’s just take it into Saturday now.”
