Mark Cooper bemoans defensive errors

Having been pleased with his sides first half performance once again, Mark Cooper found himself disappointed with the goals his team conceded in the second period.

“Second half we knew they’d come at us a little bit. The first goal is a bad defensive mistake from us giving them a free header in the box. Young Jack will look at that and know he has to deal with that

The second one is another mistake where we don’t clear the ball on the half way line and we give them a free one on one.”

Rovers found themselves with plenty of possession in the opening 45 minutes as they dictated the play but went into the break empty handed despite creating chances.

Christian Doidge had a goal chalked off by the offside flag whilst there was some great build up play from Rovers as they looked for the opener.

“We had some good opportunities in the first half. There was some good balls into Christian in the box that usually he gets hold of and finishes

There were also a couple of corners at the end and all we have to do is poke it in but we didn’t show enough desire today”

Today’s loss will certainly be a wake up call for Mark’s squad of the perils of making mistakes in the fourth tier.

“At this level we can’t concede goals like that as we won’t win games

The tempo was at our pace in the first half when we had the ball and they are having to chase everything. But if you concede a goal it gives them that impetus to go on.

The lesson we learned today is you can’t give away soft goals otherwise you can’t win games.”
