Rovers Share The Spoils In Final Game
Forest Green hosted strong opposition in their final game hoping to finish the season on a high. Against the run of play Southside won a free kick inside ten minutes which somehow found its way through a number of bodies in the box to hit the net. Rovers retaliated with Jordan Thomson, Ed Spence and Billy Gibbs all having opportunities and eventually Thomson was able to equalise after turning thirty yards out and firing his attempt into the top corner. Charlie Price and Richard Price handled their athletic counterparts extremely well in defence and Jordan Schofield put in a very good performance in goal to snuff out any threats. After the break, Rovers continued to have the upper hand but after giving the ball away at a free kick left themselves open to a 2 v 1 counter attack with which Galaxy extended their lead. This was a blow which reflected most of their season and Rovers didn’t respond well but they soon won a free kick which Thomson was able curl into the top corner to raise hopes again. Both teams went close with Jamie Jell and Gibbs drawing saves from consecutive overhead kicks for Rovers but neither side was able to find a breakthrough. The Forest Green Rovers U14 coaches would like to thank all players and parents for their efforts this season, in particular for the style the team continued to play in the face of adversity, and wish everyone all the best for the future!
