Forest Green earn important point at Port Vale

Substitute Omar Bugiel’s second half equaliser earned FGR their first point on the road as they cancelled out Dan Turner’s first half strike.

Port Vale took the lead after 20 minutes as FGR gifted them a chance and Dan Turner made no mistake as he slotted past Brad Collins from the edge of the box.

Collins was again called into action just a few moments later as he palmed Dan Turner’s effort from wide, over the bar.

The game’s first substitution took place after 25 minutes as the injured referee was replaced by his linesman, and the fourth official took up his role of running the line.

Port Vale's David Worall let fly from 30 yards in the closing minutes of the first half but his effort was nowhere near Brad Colllins’ goal before Anthony De Freitas also tried his luck but his powerful strike flashed wide.

Mark Cooper made two subs at half time, with Traore and Gomes coming on for James and Mullings, and those changes had a big impact on FGR who improved after the break.

Will Randall took off down the left early into the second half, but nobody could connect with his powerful cross.

Just after the hour mark, Dan Turner had a chance for Vale but his shot from inside the box flew high and wide.

66 minutes in, Omar Bugiel entered the fray and only two minutes later, he found the net with his first touch. Liam Noble delivered a central free kick to the back post and Christian Doidge headed the ball back across goal for the Lebanese international to power his header into the back of the net.

As the game drew towards its final 10 minutes, Liam Noble had two free kicks on the edge on the edge of the box in quick succession. The first flew agonisingly past the top corner and the second was cleared by Roos in the Vale goal.

Toni Gomes worked the Vale keeper with 2 minutes to go but his volley from the edge of the area lacked any real power.
