FGR make it three in a row

Marsh-Brown opens the scoring

Goals from Keanu Marsh-Brown and Scott Laird made it three wins in three for FGR on a sunny afternoon at The New Lawn.

Keanu Marsh-Brown, who was named sponsor’s man of the match, and Scott Laird scored either side of the break with Rovers keeping a clean sheet for the second time in their last three outings.

Manager Mark Cooper named an unchanged side to the one that went away to Stevenage last weekend and won 2-1, with Manny Monthe returning to the bench.

Inside one minute, Vadaine Oliver found himself with space on the edge of the area, his low effort forcing a save from Brad Collins.

A good FGR spell followed with Marsh-Brown and Reece Brown trying to create chances from midfield.

Jack Fitzwater then made a great tackle after 18 minutes as he denied Aaron Wildig with a sliding challenge inside the six-yard box.

Fitzwater was amongst the action again two minutes laater as he cleared Aaron McGowan’s cross over his own crossbar.

Oliver almost found the net again as the ball fell to him in the box. This time his effort slammed against the base of the post.

Both sides looked as though they could make the breakthrough and Alex Iacovitti tried his luck from distance after 23 minutes. His effort flying just over the bar.

FGR’s persistence paid off just before half an hour as awell worked moved down the left allowed Isiah Osbourne to play in Marsh-Brown who calmly finished across Barry Roche into the bottom corner.

Moments into the second half, a Forest Green counter attack almost created the second goal of the game as Brown played Dale Bennett down the right. The full-back’s cross was blocked though, and Morecambe were able to clear.

Just after the hour mark, Morecambe were forced to change their goalkeeper and FGR looked to capitalise and in the 65th minute they did exactly that.

Scott Laird whipped in a free kick from the right hand side and, through a crowd of bodies, the ball nestled into the bottom corner.

With just two minutes of time to play, Reece Brown picked the ball up on the edge of the area but his effort was pushed up and onto the top of the crossbar.

Nevertheless, FGR sealed another valuable victory. Their first at home since August.
