El Glosico ends in stalemate

Doidge celebrates his goal

Christian Doidge's eighth minute strike was cancelled out by a Mohamed Eisa strike in a heated clash at The New Lawn.

Mark Cooper named an unchanged starting XI for the thirdgame on the bounce. The only change came on the bench as Manny Monthe, startinghis three-match ban, was replaced by Toni Gomes.

Christian Doidge opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes before his strike was cancelled out with just six minutes of the first half to play by Mohamed Eisa for the visitors.

The opening minutes were cagey, neither side wanting to make a mistake, but it only took eight minutes for exactly that to happen. The Cheltenham back-line misjudged Brad Collins’ long kick and Doidge made no mistake, the in-form striker racing through and slotting home past Scott Flinders.

Keanu Marsh-Brown also tried his luck from a free-kick and then open play but neither shot really tested Flinders in the visitor’s goal.

Harry Pell had a great chance after 25 minutes, but he couldn’t keep his effort down, skying over the bar from Eisa’s cut-back.

Doidge had a chance to double FGR’s lead after half an hour as he latched on to Scott Laird’s looping cross, but Flinders was off his line sharply to quell the danger.

With just six minutes of the first half to play, Eisa grabbed an equaliser for the visitors, striking low across Collins and into the bottom right-hand corner.

Collins was called into action just five minutes into the second period as he produced a stunning save to deny Eisa from close range.

Former FGR man Danny Wright seemed desperate to get on the scoresheet, taking every opportunity to fire at goal, his closest coming in the 70th minute as he tapped inches wide of the near post.

Doidge was called upon in FGR’s goal with five minutes to play, hooking a header off the line to keep the scores level.

With the game’s last kick, the hosts almost snatched the winner. Lee Collins latched onto a lose ball on the edge of the area and fired inches wide.
