Kieron Forbes

If a measure of a player’s quality is the esteem in which he is held by his peers, than Kieron Forbes has few equals within the Forest Green Rovers squad.

After six months at the club, the former Watford scholar hit his stride during the 2011-12 season, earning his first call-up to the England C team squad. After three dynamic performances against Russia, Beligium and Turkey he went on to win England C Player of the Year for 2012-13 at the Non-League Paper’s National Game Awards at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.

Unfortunately for the creative midfielder and Rovers fans, those impressive international appearances twice ended in injury last season, with Forbes being stretchered off against Belgium in September 2012 before picking up an ankle injury in February 2013 against Turkey.

Forbes began his career working under Dave Hockaday in the Watford academy and made his first senior appearance for the Vicarage Road outfit in August 2007 as a substitute in a League Cup tie against Gillingham.

After leaving Watford he joined Wealdstone where he was part of the side that battled to reach the second round of the FA Cup in 2009, eventually losing to Football League side Rotherham United.

And it was almost a year later that Forest Green’s terrific scouting system targeted Kieron with the opportunity to return to full time football proving to be a key factor in bringing him to The New Lawn. Last summer Kieron signed a new contract to keep him with Rovers until summer 2015.
