Forest Green Rovers under 18 side progressed into the third qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup with another mature display - beating Chard Town 3-1 in Somerset.

A proud Rovers coach Scott Bartlett said the match started in typical cup fashion, fast and furious, yet goal-less at half-time.

A confident, polished performance earned Forest Green under 18’s a place in the second qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup after victory over Welsh rivals Newport County, writes Richard Joyce.

A fantastic Jack Phillpott free kick, a Johnny Brodie follow up and a courageous header from Zak Messenger ensured that Scott Bartlett and Gary Probert’s young side would earn themselves a third match in the competition against either Yate Town or Chard.

Forest Green’s under 18’s squad return to The New Lawn on Tuesday evening in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup against Newport County (7pm).
