23/06/2008 - Rovers confirm Fowler signing
Forest Green Rovers F.C. this weekend confirmed that they have completed the signing of 25 yr old Lee Fowler from Newport County, following international clearance procedures.
Cardiff-born Fowler made over 60 Football League appearances with Coventry City and Huddersfield Town, and scored the winning penalty at the Millennium Stadium the latter defeated Mansfield Town in the 2004 Play Off Final. Following the Stags' relegation to the Blue Square Premier, Fowler will no doubt be seeking to get another win over them during the 2008/09 campaign.
Lee will also relish the opportunity of playing against his older brother Mike, who is a member of the Salisbury City squad. With 12 caps for the Wales Under 21 side, he becomes the latest exile to don the black and white stripes at the New Lawn. Many will see him has a combative midfield player, brought in to fill the gap left by the departure of club captain Michael Brough. He is allocated Squad No 16.
In another surprise move announced by manager Jim Harvey, it is announced that 21 year old central defender Mark Preece has re-signed on a one year contract. Many supporters were surprised that the ex Bristol Rovers player had been released and thought he had done enough to earn himself another contract. Despite the turnaround the likeable Bristolian will be seen by many fans as an asset and warmly welcome his return. He is allocated Squad No 15.
