Hockaday - "We aren't far off"
Forest Green boss Dave Hockaday was full of praise for his Rovers side after they were narrowly edged out of their league meeting with top of the table Fleetwood Town on Saturday.
Big spending Fleetwood secured a second half stoppage time winner to pick up all the points on offer at The New Lawn on Saturday after Matty Taylor had put the home side in front in the first half.
“We’ve given them a right good run for their money,” said Hockaday. “Both teams have had lots of chances. We’ve played the best two teams in the league and we’ve won one and lost one. There is a strong argument to say we didn’t deserve to lose that one.
“We aren't that far off from being a very decent team. We aren’t far off.”
And the Rovers boss was full of praise for the Forest Green supporters who got behind his team as they came so close to pulling off another victory over one of the division’s leading outfits.
“Those that were here got behind us.They were chanting so fair play and thank you to them. I’m just trying to tell people that I think there’s something stirring in the woods.
“I’m really proud of my team today because they stuck at it; could have nicked it and they’ve got the decision but fair play to them because they are a good team.
“I’ve enjoyed today for many reasons. I’m disappointed and gutted with the result but I’m really happy with the shift that my players have put in again.”
The result leaves FGR in 12th place ahead of their next trip to AFC Telford United in the first weekend of February.
