Solar plugged in and providing green power
Forest Green Rovers new solar power system at The New Lawn stadium is already producing free electricity for the football club after being commissioned this morning (Tuesday 6 December).
The 170 photo voltaic panels installed on the south-facing roof of the eesi stand have a capacity of 44.88kW and despite the overcast conditions had already produced 9kWh by midday today (or the equivalent of powering 150 old-style light bulbs or 600 energy-saving light bulbs). A further small array of solar panels will be installed at the entrance to the club this week.
The solar panels will provide free green electricity to FGR and an annual income for Sustainability in Sport via the Feed-in-tariff.
With energy efficiency measures on the way – such as low-energy flood-lights – the solar panels will eventually produce as much as 25% of the club's electricity and reduce its carbon footprint.
