Taylor completes 90 in reserve win
ROVERS second string continued their Football Combination Southern Division campaign with victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last night at The New Lawn.
Forest Green’s squad was made up of mostly first teamers as well as a mix of trialists including former Swindon and Cheltenham midfielder Michael Pook and young Ghanaian striker Kassim Suleman.
Rovers fell behind ten minutes before the break when Torbjorn Agdestien finished coolly for the visitors having returned to Brighton from his loan spell at Rovers Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Bath City.
The home side struck back though in the 42nd minute when trialist Michael Uwezu knocked in a low cross from the returning Matt Taylor who managed a full 90 minutes on his return from injury.
Callum Henry had a header cleared off the line for Forest Green in the early stages of the second half until five minutes from time Rovers got their winner when the unfortunate Grant Hall saw the ball cannon off him and in to his own net to hand Rovers victory.
Matt Bulman still had to pull off a good stop from the hard working George Barker in the closing stages and youth teamer Charlie Novoth also made Brighton keeper Mitch Walker pull off a good save late on.
Rovers second string are next in action in early November when they travel north to Cheltenham to take on Forest Green legend Alex Sykes Bishop’s Cleeve side in the Gloucestershire Senior Cup.
