Forest Hit winning ways
With last week’s game cancelled and the rain coming down heavy it was feared that this match may be called off too, however, with the referees blessing Forest Green Ladies welcomed a strong Newquay Ladies Team to Slimbridge.
With both sides harbouring ambitions to do well this season this was always going to be a competitive hard fought game. In the early stages Forest Green started the brightest pushing the Newquay defence hard and on the 14th minute, a quick throw in on the left hand side from the ever bright Natalie Holbrook sent Charlotte King who run the length of the half before coolly slotting the ball beyond the out coming Newquay goal keeper, to add to last weeks hatrick. Forest Green then pressed on looking for a second with chances falling to Katie Cook and Ella who both found the Newquay goal keeper on sparkling form. Newquay also had their opportunities during the first half with Newquay striker hitting the post from a tight angle and testing Forrest keeper Jade on a few occasions. Half time 1-0
The second half was a more equally contested affair with Newquay pushing hard for the equaliser. On the 56th minute good work from Abbie Sadler, Paige Stewart and the impressive Kirsty in breaking up another Newquay attack and finding Ella Hitchcox out on the left wing who with a pin point cross to Katie Cook who finished with a vicious right foot shot to make it 2-0 to Forest Green Ladies. With Forest ladies still celebrating Newquay attacked quickly and grabbed a quick goal to make it 2-1. The game now become very open and with Newquay committing players forward Forest countered quickly and the Newquay keeper pulling of a fantastic save from the impressive Charlotte King. From the resulting corner the ball was cleared to Kirsty who coolly slotted it into the top right corner 3-1. Newquay threw everything at Forest getting a second goal with 5 minutes to go, however giant performances from Frankie, Nat and shep helped forest see out the win.
