Youth Team

The Forest Green Rovers Youth experience is like no other boys football club in the local area. We provide great facilities, licensed coaches and a hard-working support network which makes sure that your son participates in a fun, friendly and stimulating environment.

We enter the best leagues possible at the local level and provide training sessions that ensure our players are active, engaged and enthusiastic about their football.

The club requires that all players pay a monthly subscription which is obtained by standing order. In exchange for this all players: will be a part of a player pathway from U7 all the way to U18 football in a safe, professional environment. Receive coaching from fully qualified, experienced and knowledgeable coaches at least once a week during the season, weather permitting.

The coaching staff and officials of Forest Green Rovers understand that children participate in football to have fun. If children don’t have fun playing football, they’ll soon pack it in.

We never forget that the game of football is just that - a game. It’s not about how many wins and losses are accumulated. And, it is surely not about how many trophies are collected. It’s not about how many goals we score or concede. It’s all about enjoying the game and, at the same time, learning and developing football and life skills.

Proper football development requires that children play age appropriate activities so they are able to experience, comprehend, and execute the game as it relates to where they are at their own stage of physical and mental development.

It is about playing in different positions so the player learns all the skills necessary to develop in the game.

It’s about learning the techniques of the game through a variety of fun games where players have as much contact with a ball as possible and learn at their own rates.

Coaching Philosophy

Each summer Forest Green Rovers Youth carry out trials for new players for the upcoming season. We hold these trials to ensure that each season we remain competitive and avoid complacency in our current players.

Both existing and new members are assessed on their attitude, technique, skill, fitness and their personality in order to join their respective team for the following season. However, the trials are not just about the players; the club itself is on trial! Whilst you try out you get to see our facilities, who our coaches are, how we coach and who your prospective team-mates might be so come along and see what we have on offer!

Trials for the 2011/2012 season have now been completed, however if you are interested in trying out and potentially joining the FGR Mini Soccer and Youth Development Scheme, please download and complete the Youth Team application form, and post to:

When applying, please be sure to indicate your date of birth and obtain your parent's/guardian's permission.

If you were unable to attend the trial dates then please feel free to contact us as there may still be places available for you to try out at a later date.

NOTE: Trials are open to footballers under the age of eighteen who live within ninety minutes regular travel of our home venue. We DO NOT accept applications for players from outside this travel zone or from outside the UK due to possible complications with attending training and matches.

Therefore if you intend to play for Forest Green Rovers Youth you MUST live within the stated travel zone. Furthermore, Forest Green Rovers Youth WILL NOT assist you in securing UK residency but may advise you of best practice under certain circumstances.
