Reece Styche is one of the hottest prospects and unluckiest players outside of the Football League but also one of the most popular figures amongst the Forest Green supporters.
Reece joined Forest Green in January 2010 from Chasetown for an undisclosed fee when Rovers scouting system picked up the tenacious striker after he had hammered in 13 goals in 15 appearances for the Staffordshire club.
He made his Rovers debut within 24 hours of signing at The New Lawn and became an instant hit as his two second half strikes secured Forest Green a dramatic 3-2 away win over Hayes & Yeading United.
Reece finished his first full season with Rovers as the club’s top scorer with 16 strikes and earned himself a call up in to the England C squad where he made his debut in the International Challenge Trophy final against Portugal in May 2011 at Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium.
His form attracted interest from non-league giants Luton Town who made several offers to take Reece to Kenilworth Road in August 2011, however Rovers tied down the much wanted forward to a new three year contract.
Unfortunately Styche spent much of the 2011-12 season on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury just two months into the campaign yet still managed to find the back of the net 8 times in 16 appearances.
After working his way back to form and fitness in 2012-13, Styche had scored 7 times in 11 starts when he again fell victim to injury against Wrexham, snapping the anterior-cruciate ligament in his other knee – sidelining him until December 2013.
But a positive attitude and a relentless work ethic will no doubt see him return stronger.
