An England C call-up was nothing more than Chris Stokes deserved, according to many Rovers fans, when the 22-year-old flew with the non-league stars to Bermuda in July.
The 2011-12 ‘Supporters Player of the Year’ award winner, Chris Stokes continued to show why he is one of the top young full backs outside the Football League with an outstanding back-to-back seasons in Dave Hockaday’s side.
Chris joined Forest Green in November 2010 following his release by Bolton Wanderers where the talented left back had learnt his trade as part of the Trotters successful youth and reserve teams.
He very nearly missed out on the opportunity to sign on for Rovers when a move to Cypriot side AEL Limassol was lined up, but a late call saw the former England under 17 international become a Rovers player.
Chris made his Rovers debut as a 19-year-old in February 2011 in a home draw with Darlington and the attack-minded fullback quickly impressed, earning himself a one year contract that was extended after further impressive performances until June 2015.
