Kids Go Free

As a Football Club, Forest Green Rovers are very much committed to developing youth football, beginning with our under 8’s and progressing up to aged 18 and, in this regard, we have a growing reputation. We are slowly developing our links with the wider community and are aiming to provide opportunities for all youngsters to play and become involved with, the game of football.

After moving into our new and much improved stadium in 2006, the club took the decision to encourage our local youngsters to enjoy the game and we now have a growing programme of games where children under the age of 16 years can watch selected Rovers matches free of charge.

In our first season at the New Lawn, we held two very successful Kids Go Free matches and are repeating the exercise during season 2007/8 where the number of free entry games will be doubled. For normal entry matches we attract around 100 children to the game but when we operate the free entry system, we are pleased to say that this figure consistently exceeds 300 and there are signs that this is increasing, game on game.

We are extremely grateful to all of the Gloucestershire schools and youth team set ups that regularly support the cause by publicising arrangements on our behalf.

It is a requirement that any child under 16 years old is accompanied by a responsible paying adult, maximum of 2 children per adult, and this seems to work extremely well. There is a separate seated Family Area set aside for those who might require it. In addition and to increase the value of the experience for families, we also aim to provide some form of pre match or half time entertainment, i.e.. penalty shoot outs or mini matches and these have proved very popular with fans of all ages.

We hope that families will continue to support the initiative and spread the word amongst family and friends. Keep checking the web site for details of our next Kids Go Free match.
